The beautiful and historic Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre (also known simply as Capitol Theatre) has been the beating heart of Salt Lake City's cultural district for over 100 years! An ornate and traditional theatre space that opened in 1913 as a vaudeville house, the Orpheum Theatre, it plays host to Ballet pieces, Dance performances, Opera, Broadway shows, Symphony Orchestra’s, Comedy acts, Pop Concerts, Jazz recitals’ and more. The Capitol is the home of Ballet West, the Utah Opera and, hosts the annual Jazz SLC series. There are countless memories contained within these walls and many Utahans had their very first performing arts experience at the Capitol Theatre as a participant or a spectator.
